Well...ladies and gentlemen, IT'S TIME!

After stirring up some hype, it's time to finally unveil all the new upgrades we've got in store for 2012. We've got some great new stuff this year that we think you're really going to like. Let's get right to it, shall we? Here is just SOME of the amazing stuff that Swift Canoe & Kayak will be releasing in 2012:

The Boats

The All-New Keewaydin 15 Solo Canoe

The all-new Keewaydin 15 is David Yost’s latest solo canoedesign, and it’s an unparalleled balance of comfort and performance. Theperformance lies in its enhanced tumblehome and mid-range waterline, making itultra-responsive when leaned or heeled. The comfort comes from its shallow archhull and moderate width, making it stable not just for kneeling paddlers , butpaddlers who sit as well. Whether you’re headed deep into the backcountry oraround the cottage, the Keewaydin 15’s user-friendly feel will put you at ease,freeing you up to enjoy the beauty around you.

The All-New Saranac 15 Kayak

The Saranac 15 is the newest member of the Saranac family. This David Yost design follows the traditions of its predecessors by utilizing thesame distinctive style and pleasing shape, but offers more space under the deckfor larger paddlers and an increased waterline for better glide. As light as 34lbs, it accelerates with ease and maintains speed with minimal effort, makingit the easy choice for adventurous paddlers or those who need a little more legroom. If you demand the size and performance of a bigger boat but don’t want theburden that comes with it, the Saranac 15 fills this niche with style.

The All-New Bering Sea XL

The Bering Sea XL is ideally suited for the larger sized paddler who is looking for more than average performance. Complimented by beautiful craftsmanship and durable, lightweight construction, the Bering Sea XL has rounded chines and a moderate rocker with a spacious cockpit. It handles wind and waves with predictability. It's long waterline length, flared hull design and generous hatches create ample storage for a kayak of it's size.

The Swift Osprey 'Combi' Edition

For the Osprey 'Combi,' we've taken our popular Osprey solo canoe and added a multi-function kayak style seating configuration. The new seating system is elevated slightly off the hull and incorporates adjustable foot braces and our new High-Back Seat with lumbar support. This unique seat fits right into the existing sliding seat configuration, allowing you to interchange between a canoe or kayak seat in just minutes. The new 'Combi' Edition is ideal for birdwatchers, fisherman, or those who want the functionality of a canoe/kayak hybrid.

The Technology

Flax Fusion

Swift is redefiningmodern canoe composition by introducing its most environmentally responsible laminateyet; the all-new Flax Fusion. Using naturally grown flax fiber cloth layers surroundingan inner Kevlar layer, as well as an eco-friendly Vinylester resin thatminimizes waste, Flax Fusion produces the same robust boats you require butwithout the environmental impact. Interior finishes are done in high-qualitycherry wood with organic hemp strapping for the seats, making these boats themost enviro-conscious composite canoes on the market. As paddlers, we treasureour partnership with Nature, and this is our way of keeping that bondstrong.

All Flax Fusion boats will have cherry wood seats woven with organic hemp strapping.

The new Flax Fusion laminate is comprised of naturally grown flax fiber sandwiching inner Kevlar, giving it a distinctive brown color and vintage look.

Carbon-Kevlar Gunwale Re-Design

Swift isintroducing a stunning new re-design of our unique Carbon Kevlar Trim for 2012.The new trim has a contoured profile that incorporates an outer lip, creatingan even stronger trim system with better grip for portaging. The new Carbon andKevlar pattern also has a more durable coating finish for strength and longterm durability. The new gunwale system is available in our Kevlar and CarbonFusion laminates and can be upgraded with Cherry wood decks emblazed with our logo andmatching outer gunwale strips.

The new profile does away with the outer vinyl strip, instead using the gunwale itself to provide the outer lip. Great for carrying and portaging, and maintenance free!

The new Carbon-Kevlar Trim comes standard with black or brown vinyl end caps, and is available with a cherry wood outer/end cap upgrade.

Adirondack Pack Boat 'Tech Package'

Swift’s Adirondack Pack boats will have an exciting new look for 2012. Their new trim system incorporates a new Carbon Kevlar gunwale profile without using wood, instead integrating lightweight Carbon decks, handles and thwarts! These new boats will also have our new ultra-comfortable high back seating system with lumbar support, including an optional Sliding Seat System that allows the paddler to trim the boat easily for different loads.

A Carbon Fusion Adirondack Pack 12 with the full 'Tech' upgrade with carbon decks, handles, and thwarts. SO light!

A Kevlar Fusion Adirondack Pack 12 with the full 'Tech' upgrade. Both the seat and the footbraces are bonded directly to the interior, so no holes are drilled into the hull!

Our Pack Boats are available with a sliding seat configuration that allows you to re-position the seat for better trim. The lumber pad is fully adjustable, allowing you to find the best possible paddling position.

The new Deluxe High Back Seats also fold down for easier transport and storage.

Limited Edition Textral Carbon Canoes

Swift is nowproducing limited edition canoes with Textral Carbon Cloth. The Textral Carbonpossesses a unique pattern within the cloth, adding a sleek and distinctivestyle to our Carbon Fusion laminate. Combined with our new Carbon Kevlar Trim,the limited edition Textral Carbon Swift canoes are the most unique lightweightcanoes on the market!

The new Textral cloth has a dynamic pattern woven into the carbon fiber that syncs with the braid of the trim, creating a unique canoe that exists nowhere else!

It's That Time Of Year Again! The Toronto International Boat Show is Almost Here!

Well paddlers, it's that time of year again!

The Toronto International Boat Show is coming up January 14th-22nd at the Direct Energy Center in downtown T.O. As always, Swift Canoe & Kayak will be there, and this year we've got some amazing stuff to show you. We'll be unveiling several new things for 2012, including amazing new lightweight boat features, new color schemes, new technology, and a new boat! Not only will we be showcasing our new 2012 additions, we'll also be offering stellar discounts on existing stock and taking 2012 spring orders. So come visit us and the booth and chat us up.

The biggest fall event for Ontario paddlers is coming up this weekend! The Algonquin Paddlesports Assembly is back this year, and Swift Canoe & Kayak and Algonquin Outfitters are teaming up to put together an awesome events for paddlers of all types. Not only will there be clearance pricing on everything from canoes and kayaks to tents and sleeping bags, we've got an entire weekend full of demonstrations, seminars, test paddling, and all around fun!

If it's got a scratch or a dent it's coming to Guelph and we want you to have it (for a fair and reasonable price, of course ;). We'll be taking down trailer loads of canoes and kayaks in all shapes and sizes, so we're pretty confident we'll have you covered. We've got rental boats, demo boats, big boats, and little boats. We're taking down a large stock of NEW boats too, as well as all kinds of paddling gear (PFD's, paddles, tie-downs, etc). There's FREE test paddling too, so you can try before you buy!

So, to commemorate this momentous occasion we're selling off as much as we can to make room for next year. Introducing the Newest Member of the Swift Canoe Family: The Keewaydin 16

Ladies and Gentlemen, Paddlers and Purists,

Swift Canoe & Kayak is proud to finally unveil the all-new Keewaydin 16! We've quietly been showcasing this boat at some of our dealers' stores so if you're a real hardcore paddler you might have already caught a glimpse of this new machine, but now it's finally time to present this awesome new canoe it to the masses. The Keewaydin 16 will join it's older brother the Keewaydin 17 as part of our "Touring Canoe Series" and will be an excellent option for trippers who need a boat with diverse capabilities. The Keewaydin 16 is remarkably fast for it's size, so much so that it was dubbed "the rocket" by the R&D boys. Even more, it's got the same keynote features of the Keewaydin 17 with narrower paddling stations, lowered seats, and refined tumblehome. This makes the boat incredibly easy to paddle, regardless of your size or position in the boat, while maximizing efficiency and glide. The Keewaydins are also the first Swift boats to incorporate gradual rocker, a technique utilized by designer David Yost that creates a gradual increase in rocker as you move closer to the bow and stern. This helps to maximize glide by shaping the hull for increased water deflection. That's really just a fancy way of saying the boat cuts through the water like a knife through butter, but hey, it's a good tagline.

MEC Paddlefest is THIS WEEKEND!

This weekend Mountain Equipment Co-op is hosting it's annual Paddlefest event as Sunnyside Park in Toronto. If you're looking to buy a boat, paddling gear, or even if you just need an excuse to check out outdoor sports and sportswear, come on out! It's that time of year again. Swift will be coming back once more to the Guelph Lake Conservation Area this weekend (Apr 29/30/May 1) for our annual spring demo and sale! We'll be bringing trailerloads full of boats, paddles, PFD's, and all kinds of paddling gear. So if you're anywhere in Southern Ontario and want to come check things out, now's your chance!

We're going to have our trained sales staff on hand to help you find your boat, and there is FREE test paddling. We'll So come on out and hop into a boat and help us jumpstart the 2011 paddling season!

Where: Guelph Lake Conservation Area (7743 Conservation Drive, RR#4 Guelph, ON)

When: Friday 12-8 pm, Saturday 9-5 pm, and Sunday 9-4 pm.

What: new and used Swift canoes and kayaks, as well as Wilderness Systems, Perception, Hobie, and Pelican. Paddling gear from brands including Badger Paddles, Kokatat, Harmony, NRS, Fox 40, and more.

Sneak Preview Part VI- From Prototype to Production

The Prospector 17 Is Here

Hello again paddling enthusiasts,

In Parts I, IV, and V of the Sneak Preview Series, we showed you how a canoe goes from just an idea to a full-fledged prototype. We've brought you along so you can see how we build and test each new design. Well, now it's time to see the finished product. As we announced in January, Swift has designed two new additions to our Prospector series, the Prospector 15 and 17. These new designs are now complete with finished moulds, and the first boats have already gone through production. With that said, Swift is proud to show you the first Swift Prospector 17 ever built:

Moments after coming out of the mould. It still needs trim, interior wood, and decals, but it's beginning to take shape.

The boat was made in Kevlar Fusion, with our Carbon-Kevlar trim, in champagne white, with cherry wood interior. The Swift factory team finished the boat this week and it immediately headed out for it's maiden voyage.

We decided to take the boat down to our good friends at Bay Creek Paddling Center in Rochester, NY. The gang decided on Irondeqouit Creek, a tributary of the larger Irondequoit Bay that feeds into Lake Ontario. It was a cold, snowy day but Dave and Morgan from Bay Creek braved the weather and put the boat through its paces. We're going to make them honorary Canadians for being such good sports. According to them, the boat paddles exceptionally well and is very maneuverable for it's size. It's also got tonnes of cargo capacity and glides nicely through the water, even with a light load. Here they are in action:

They've even got their toques on. Yes, it's a toque. It's not a hat, or a cap, or a chapeau, it's a toque eh!

Sneak Preview Part V- Testing New Canoe Prototypes

Hello Again Paddling Enthusiasts,

If you've been following us these last few months, then you know that Swift has been working on some big things for 2011. The feedback has been fantastic, and we're excited about what's in store the upcoming paddling season. In Parts I-IV of our Sneak Preview series we've given you a behind-the-scenes look at how new boat designs go from idea to water, and in Part V of our 'Sneak Preview' series we're going to show you the next stage in the evolution of a canoe: the testing stage.

Back in Part I we showed you how we design and engineer new canoe prototypes. Unbeknownst to everyone, however, was that David Yost and the Swift team were actually developing not one, but three new canoe designs, two of which you'll see right here. You can read all about the construction and development of the prototypes here and here. Now in Part V of Swift's 'Sneak Preview' Series, we're going to give you an inside look at how we test potential canoe designs before they reach the production stage.

A couple weeks back the Swift boys, along with our good friend Don, ventured out in search of some open water to test the new designs. Being that this is Canada in January, finding open water isn't always easy. Even more, canoeing in January isn't always warm either. But the boys strapped on their snowshoes anyway and went out in search of a testing ground. We took two new boats with us, the Prospector 15 and another prototype that shall still remain nameless (mysterious huh?). We found a great spot at the Muskoka River locks in Huntsville and put each boat through it's paces. Here's the scoop:

The Toronto International Boat Show Starts Tomorrow!

Good day paddlers and paddling enthusiasts,

In case you didn't get the memo, the Toronto International Boat Show starts this weekend! This is THE biggest boat show of the year, and believe us, we'll be pulling out all the stops. We'll be bringing several new boat designs with us, including the new Aqua and Glacier kayak color schemes, the new Prospector 17 canoe, and a couple more little secrets we haven't even told you about yet.... (more on that soon). We'll also be bringing the new 2011 Hobie MirageDrive kayaks, Scott Canoes, Wilderness Systems Kayaks, and Perception kayaks, just to name a few.

The show runs from Saturday January 8th to Sunday January 16th at the Direct Energy Center in downtown Toronto , so if you're in the GTA (or frankly, even if you're not) you should come out and see what it's all about!

Sneak Preview Part IV- The Creation of the New Swift Prospector Series

A new canoe is born.

The Swift team took a well deserved break for the holidays, but that doesn't mean we sat around sipping egg nog all day. We've got a lot of things in store for 2011 and beyond, so we've been focused this off-season on designing and implementing several new designs. In part 5 of the Sneak Preview Series, Swift Canoe & Kayak is excited to bring you another behind-the-scenes look at 2 new canoe models we've got in store for 2011.

Back in Part I of the "Sneak Preview" series we showed you the building of a Swift prototype. Well, that wasn't the only prototype being built at the time. Forever mischievous, we wanted to save a few surprises until later (and we still can't tell you the name of that first prototype. Not just yet.). David Yost and the Factory Team have designed and tooled 3 new canoe moulds for the 2011 season, and now is the time to unveil them. So without further ado, we present to you 2 new additions to the Swift Prospector Canoe Series, the Prospector 15 and 17.

The plug is made from hand-laid pine wood strips by our principal designer David Yost. From here, the plug will go to our factory where a final mould will be created for large-scale production. The completed Prospector 15 plug the day it arrived at the shop. Once the plug is completed, it is test paddled by the Swift staff so we can finalize mould specifications, seat placements, yoke placement, and so on.

The Prospector canoe design has been a figurehead of Canadian canoeing since the beginning, but it's design has been stagnant for the last several decades. And that's not a bad thing; the Prospector design has maintained itself because of its strong performance and versatility. People always say, "if it ain't broke, don't fit it," but at Swift we believe that just because it isn't broken doesn't mean we can't improve it. So that's what we did.

After consulting with the Swift manufacturing team and our designer David Yost, we went about re-shaping the Prospector design and expanding the capabilities of classic Canadian canoe designs. These new models offer more versatility than the traditional Prospector and give paddlers a better mix of options when searching for the "classic" canoe to suit their needs.

The Prospector 15 is our way of showing that we were listening to our devoted followers when they asked us for a smaller symmetrical tandem canoe. Designed with the solo paddler in mind, but considerate of the tandem tripper, the Prospector 15 is equal parts fast and smooth. It's quick and maneuverable in a solo position, and smooth and stable as a tandem. It offers paddlers a better multi-purpose canoe for solo and/or tandem adventure tripping.

The Prospector 17, meanwhile, has all the classic features of the Prospector design but with a higher weight capacity. For paddlers who need space for gear, kids, or pets, it's got a high-volume hull design that offers great stability. It's also surprisingly responsive for its size, making it a great fit for young families or for those who like to pack everything including the kitchen sink when they go tripping.

Welcome paddlers to Part III of our "Sneak Preview Series." We're going to give you another inside look at a new design we have in store for 2011! In Part II we showcased our new "Aqua" color scheme and the response has been unbelievable, but this one is even even cooler...

Swift Canoe & Kayak is proud to unveil the all-new "Glacier" two-tone kayak color scheme! This new color scheme uses the "Aqua" color as a base coat, then carefully adds accents in "Sky Blue" around the deck line. The result is an awesome paint scheme that's bright, colorful, and very unique. This new design will be available for order and purchase beginning with the Toronto International Boat Show, going on Jan 8th-16th at the Toronto Direct Energy Center. This year we'll be pulling out all the stops for TBS. We've got a new and expanded booth space, a showcase booth for some new product lines we're carrying next year, plus all the latest Swift designs! Sneak Preview: A Swift Prototype Is Born

With another paddling season gone by, and with us all eagerly awaiting the arrival of Spring, the Swift R&D team has been busy engineering several new prototypes for future production. Here is a sneak peek at the development of a new Swift canoe, a boat we hope to unveil in 2011. While we can't give away too many secrets about the method behind the magic, this will give you a rare glimpse into the world of Swift Canoe Research & Development. These pictures depict the making of a new 16 foot canoe plug by David Yost, our principal boat designer and long-time colleague. In these pictures you'll see DY refining the hull using the tried and true methods of boat design. This hand-crafted, meticulously detailed, pine wood hull will become the foundation for a new canoe mould, eventually giving us the means to produce more of the high-quality composite boats our customers have come to love and expect. To learn more, keep an eye on Swift over the winter or stop by one of the many off-season trade shows and ask about our new designs. And of course, watch out for the unveiling of several new Swift designs in the coming months!

On June 25 & 26, 2010, the G8 Summit comes to the Algonquin Park Area. Leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States will be meeting at Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, Ontario.
Throughout the week of June 21 - 28, 2010, a number of internationally protected persons and accompanying very important persons will travel to the Huntsville area with a significant number of support staff to attend the G8 Summit.

As a result, sections of Highway 60 between Huntsville and Dwight (near Deerhurst Resort) will be restricted. Visitors heading to Algonquin Park through Huntsville must seek an alternate route.

At this time, no closures or restrictions within Algonquin Park are expected -- it is business as normal. All Park facilities and services are available during the G8, but travel to the Park along Highway 60 will be restricted. Solo Paddling Clinics at the Outdoor Adventure Show

Erg rowing is a great overall fitness activity and an excellent way for rowers and paddlers to keep shape during the off season!

Does your Canoe or Kayak need some love?

As the paddling season starts to draw to a close, paddlers are starting to notice wear and tear on their boats as well as repairs that will need to be done before the next paddling season begins.

Just drop your boat off at Swift Muskoka and we'll take care of the rest. Once your boat has been checked over at our factory we'll give you a call with a quote. From there our Factory Repair Technicians will give your boat the love it needs and get it ready for the 2010 paddling season.

We even offer low winter storage rates for those who want to pick up their boats in the spring or even just for those who just don't have space to store their boats.

No appointment is necessary to drop off boats for repair - just come by during business hours and we'll take it from there!

It has been very busy here at Swift since our last blog posting!

All of our stores are now open and loaded with everything you need to have fun, and be safe, on the water this summer. We've got exciting new product in store now, and more coming in each day.

BADGER PADDLES - For those who dig the water...
Badger Paddles are wooden paddles hand crafted in Ontario, CANADA and finished with a hand rubbed specially prepared oil-based formula. Each paddle has a badger paw logo singly painted on by hand and boasts a dihedral ridge to prevent flutter.

Our staff have been padding with these new paddles and they are hooked! If you dig the water, drop by one of our stores to check out these new paddles. If we don't have the perfect paddle for you we can custom order it.

KOKATAT PFD'S IN NEW COLOURS FOR 2009!

The MsFit Tour and the Orbit Tour were two of our best selling PFD's last year. We were excited to see that Kokatat is offering both models in new colours this season. Is it just a coincidence that the new Berry colour matches our Swift Raspberry Kayaks perfectly?

The response to the Kiwassa 12.6 has been overwhelming and as a result we are launching a new take on this popular kayak with the Kiwassa 12.6 LV. The LV, meaning Low Volume, offers a little less volume under the deck, with the same level of performance found in the regular 12.6. This boat fits women, smaller paddlers and those who just like a more customized fit a little better.
